The Course
Elizabeth's courses begin with charcoal drawing to develop a strong sense of composition and tone, before moving gradually into oil painting. Her experience over many years of teaching is that, by the end of a full seven-day course, students gain both the confidence and the ability to paint in oils.
To ensure close tuition, each course is limited to no more than six guests.
What You'll Learn
The course is built around the classical method Elizabeth was taught in Florence: learning to see before learning to paint.
You will begin with charcoal drawing, working from observation to understand tones and composition. From there you will move to oils, building up paintings by stages — learning how to mix colour, apply paint with control, and develop a finished work.
Most students complete four or more paintings during the week.
No prior experience is needed. The course is designed for beginners and improvers alike, and the small group size means Elizabeth can work closely with each student at their own level.

Testimonials
"As a complete painting novice, having always been told to go back to maths rather than a paintbrush, I went on a week's oil painting course run by Elizabeth. Staying in her fabulous house in glorious Dorset, being very well catered for — legendary cakes daily — we gathered as an eclectic group of six. I absolutely loved it. Starting with a charcoal drawing, I returned home after six days with four oil paintings. Her style of teaching is hands on, calm, encouraging and brilliant. Quietly sitting at your easel, showing you improvement. She really makes you look, look, look — hours flew by. I can highly recommend her lovely, great value courses."
